Trust as a Situational Construction

QR codes are part of everyday life: on packaging, posters, tickets, transport infrastructure. The scan takes seconds — the moment before it barely longer. Yet that moment is precisely the subject: When do I trust? And why? qartifacts.org is a design research project examining the QR code as an interface between physical situation and digital infrastructure. Based on a field observation of over 130 QR codes, five everyday objects are investigated as proxies for situational relationships of trust.

BEHIND THE SCENES & PROCESS

What happens in the brief moment before we scan a QR code? Explore more insights into the research, process, and five objects behind the installation — and discover how trust, context, and digital accessibility shape the project.

TRUST LENS

The Trust Lens is the central element of the installation: it makes visible what the standard scan structurally conceals. The project extends this question speculatively toward the Digital Product Passport — what does it mean when physical objects become permanently digitally addressable? The QR code remains identical. What changes is the perspective.
